Touring/sea kayaks are generally longer and more narrow than recreational sit-inside kayaks. This makes these kayaks faster and allows them to carry more gear for long trips. However, the longer a kayak is, the less quickly it turns, so keep in mind where you will be paddling most often and find a boat that fits you AND your paddling needs. For instance, an 18' sea kayak might not turn well enough to paddle a small Texas Hill Country river, while a 12' touring kayak might not have enough speed to keep up with a group of paddlers in longer boats while exploring the Gulf Coast. Also, taking a sea kayaking class from one of our instructors is encouraged, especially if you aren't familiar with long kayaks.
