PADDLING TRAIL IN LULING, TX
RESERVATIONS NEEDED
The put-in at highway 90
Te Grotenhuis Canoes and Kayaks is now renting
TUBES on a peaceful, quiet, and beautiful section of
the San Marcos River in Luling,TX.  The trip begins
at the Highway 80 bridge and meanders two miles
down river to a private take - out.  We will pick you
up at the take - out and shuttle you back to the put -
in, where your vehicle is parked.

We cater to Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, church groups,
families and individuals.  Large groups need to make
a reservation to ensure the availability of tubes for
your group.  Participants need to be 7 years and
older.  Personal flotation devices are available for
those who do not swim or would enjoy the safety a
PFD offers.

We are open weekends and holidays.  Please call
and reserve tubes to make sure we have one
available for you.  If possible, we may accommodate
groups for special occasions on other days, except
Tuesdays, by reservation only.

We will rent tubes from 10 AM to 3 PM.  All tubers
need to be at the take-out by 5 PM.  Make sure you
begin your trip with plenty of time to spare to make
the take-out time.

Tubes rent for $8.00 single, $10.00 with bottom, and
$12.00 for a double. Tax is included.  Non-profit
groups subtract tax.

This tube trip is alcohol - free which means no
alcohol consumption will be allowed prior to or
during the tube float.  Safety is our biggest concern.
50% of all water related deaths are adult males, on
flat water, who were under the influence of alcohol.
This rule is not negotiable!

* * * DO NOT BEGIN A PERSONAL TUBE TRIP FROM
HWY 90 OR HWY 80.  THE HWY 90 TO HWY 80 TRIP IS
6 MILES BUT THE LAST 3 MILES ARE LAKE WATER
IMPOUNDED BY THE ZEDLER MILL DAM.  TUBING
TIME, INCLUDING PADDLING,
12 HOURS.

STARTING AT THE HWY 80 BRIDGE, THE NEXT PUBLIC
TAKE-OUT IS 14 MILES DOWNSTREAM - ABOUT
24
HOURS
IN DURATION. * * *

The wildlife sightings can be extraordinary.  We
have seen a Great Horned and Barred Owls.
Hawks are abundant.  Turtles fall off the banks
and logs well before the paddler's arrival.  Fish
break the surface regularly.  The San Marcos
River is truly a special place.

The take-out of this river trip is at the historic
Zedler Mill and Dam area in Luling.  Originally
built in 1874, the complex was used as a saw
mill, cotton gin, and grist mill.  In 1890 the mill
began providing water to the municipal water
plant in Luling.  In 1894 the installed
hydro-electrical generator began to supply the
city with electricity.  Corn shelling and
manufacturing animal feed were later operations.
 The mills closed around 1960.

Luling offers great restaurants, legendary
barbecue, year 'round farmers markets,
interesting stores to browse, the Central Texas
Oil Patch Museum and much more.  The famous
Luling Watermelon Thump in June is always a
must do, seed-spittin' good time.  Palmetto State
Park is just a short drive from town.

**We do not rent after 1 pm to ensure you will
make the 5 pm take-out.

7 years and older
